Where Roses Bloom 2023 25 x 25 x 3cm
For many years I have mostly painted on wood surfaces. The texture of canvas used to overwhelmed me as I sought to paint shapes with nice smooth edges and perfect lines, I never appreciated the texture of canvas in my own artwork as I did with the many artists I admire.
So it’s been an exciting discovery to find how to work with the ready made canvas texture and build up layers of thick and thin paint.
With the bonus of being able to draw my figures on paper first, so I can achieve some nice contrasting smooth edges and then paste the work down and layer paint over and around my cut out, so the whole piece appears seamless.
