Rain, rain, rain

Perfect time to be indoors and start a new series of art works. To warm up I’ve been going through my photos of the Rosebery athletics carnival from last year.

The wood chopping, rock drilling, running and pony rides! I’m looking forward to this years carnival, hopefully I can sketch in-situ.

I find sports both captivating and completely bonkers! I was never the sporty type, no-one in my family was and, of course I would have preferred to be writing stories and drawing pictures. However I do like jogging and lifting weights, but i don’t have to be in a group to do this, I can be on my own. I do have an appreciation for the human form and have always enjoyed life drawing. I find in sport, you see extreme and amazing action poses portrayed in various body types. Even a portly gentleman swinging an axe or playing football has both elegance and power in their movement. With wood-chopping. the stance and axe, crisp, clean white trousers paired with the iconic Australian blue singlet, it’s a timeless and enduring scene!
