Paintings in progress for 2025

Sneak peek of a painting I’ve slowly been working on since mid last year. The background is an intricate pattern pf blackberry vines and weeds. I studied several infested blackberry hedge rows in Rosebery and I must say that I have become a little obsessed by them. Their various stages of growth is fascinating. The young fresh green canes turning a burgundy colour before turning dry and grey. The thorns too, are an amazing form up close, as are the leaves. The back of the leaf and along its edges also have tiny thorns.

I really love the tunnels animals make through the brambles and shrubs Something that I will be definitely pursuing in a later series.

The more and more I paint still life the more I find out about myself.

This is a painting of two dolls seated on top of my book shelf. The dolls are jointed fabric dolls with paper mache boots, hands and head. I made these two some time ago and called them my ‘Netty Dolls’, after my sister, Annette.
