New Bilbies

Last week I finished a small group of anthropomorphic Australian marsupials, Bilbies.

Made from calico, stuffed with sheep wool, dipped in coffee and measured and fitted into their tiny tailored pants, dresses and cardigans.

I really enjoy making these small dolls and they are intricate and take many hours to make. My hands get sore form turning the small parts right-side out, stiffing and knitting, but once those eyes are stitched on and their cheeks receive a flush of rose, they make me so happy that I can’t wait to make another!

They are so much fun to photograph, I think they enjoy it too.

As you can tell, I really love finding the right fabric, buttons and yarn to make their clothes. I have heard it from many doll makers that the doll will let you know what they want to wear and only when you finish will the doll reveal a name.

Another fun doll making fact are the stories that are created in your mind as you sew. It;s no wonder so many people feel that dolls have a soul…particularly hand made ones.

I do sell my dolls and other art work, here on my website where you will find I have an online shop.
