I love the surprise of working on a commission. It’s so interesting to work on a piece that you had not imagined, all sorts of challenges pop up and you find new ways to work with your medium, new colour combinations, and often something new will inspire you in your future work.
Make me something special!
From time to time I get asked to do a commission art piece. The work has ranged from paintings of children, pets and landscapes.
I have also been commissioned to make one of a kind art dolls, memento mori dolls, and heirloom dolls.
If you are familiar with my work then you know my art is on the side of naive and whimsical. I am not a realist painter, although I try to add a hint of a likeness to the portraits I paint.
Please read the section, “how does this work?”
How does this work?
*It’s always good to know at the beginning, if there is a time frame and theme.
*Secondly the size of the artwork and orientation -landscape or portrait. I have painting boards at the ready in sizes, 60 x 70 cm and 40 x 30. If there is a specific size you require, please contact me.
*When it comes to colour, I am happy for you to make suggestions and send photos.
*I work with a variety of themes including figurative and landscape, fairy tale and whimsical.
*If you want a family portrait with children, pets and toys, I will keep the photos up until I no longer need them and they will be deleted. I will never re- post or distribute them to other parties.
*Somethings to consider are hair and eye colour, clothing colours and style. I love my little whimsical characters to wear cardigans, skirts or shorts and jumpers but that may not be in keeping with your family members!
*My paintings are mixed medium, and I use a lot of different mediums including paper, fabric, mica flakes and sometimes found objects. I also complete the works with a beeswax finish. Bees wax is hardy and does not yellow the work, it has archival properties keeping my colours vibrant for years to come. It is best though to keep the art work away from direct heating, the wax will warm up and may look cloudy. It will go clear once it cools down. I have been working with this medium for over 10 years and it has never been an issue.
*Once we have decided on the ideal size, theme and colour, a 50% deposit is required prior to commencement. This covers the cost of materials needed to star the work. This deposit is non refundable, as I have scheduled your spot, purchased supplies and began the process of making your artwork. The remaining balance will be paid on completion. Your painting will be shipped once the final payment has been made. Postage will be based on your location and will be included in the total price.
