Making A Tree Topper Angel

Last December I was asked if I would be interested in making an angel for a Christmas tree, to replace the one they had for 60 years. If you know me well, then you can guess how excited I was and how brilliantly fun this was going to be.

A Sketch And A Stitch Later

Once the sketch was agreed upon I began making the fabric version. The face was painted with only a few brush strokes, keeping her fresh and evoking a thoughtful and inner calm …well, I hope that’s what her face portrays!

From a simple quick sketch to stitched and stuffed, painted doll.

The dress was made in panels, and had to support the angel on top of a Christmas tree.

Each panel has a series of blue and gold illustrations of Australian birds. The legs are attached to the inside of one of the front panels. The work is finished off with gold glitter, German crushed glass and several coats of varnish.
